LightSong School of 21st Century Shamanism’s founder Jan Engels-Smith answers questions from Tara Grant. Tara is acting as a liaison for the public posing common questions and concerns in the field of shamanism and energy medicine.

Jan and Tara discuss: Core shamanism. What does core shamanism mean and how does it differ from tribal or traditional shamanism?   Jan describes where the term core shamanism came from and some of the basic components of it.  Jan also talks about the different types of spirits that are used in ceremony, healing, and learning about shamanism. Jan discerns between the spirits that are benevolent and those that trick or try to do harm. Jan explains how to determine which type of spirits that you will work with in shamanism.  Jan also discusses offerings, gratitude, reverence and learning about unconditional love. 

Jan and Tara discuss shamanic healing principals, the concepts of respect and honor for all life, and energy medicine techniques to promote divine connection.

Jan and Tara discuss: Power animals.  How to identify power animals.  What does it mean when you feel an animal or bird is trying to make contact with you, such as feathers start appearing from a particular bird? What is the difference between totems, power animals and archetypes?  How do you identify your Birth Power Animal? Do power animals ever leave you?  What happens if they do? How do you communicate with power animals?  What is different in the way the indigenous people worked with power animals and the way we work with them in the 21st century?  Is there a hierarchy with power animals, meaning is there better power animals to have?  Do we choose our power animals, or do they choose us?  How do we know if we have been chosen?
